Handle Lever Operated Cast Iron Butterfly Valves

The cast iron butterfly valves, either wafer or lug type, can be operated by a handle or lever, which is simple in design and cost effective. The handle or lever can be furnished in various styles as presented below. As the rule of thumb, handle or lever operation is only applicable to sizes DN40 to DN300 in low-pressure service. They can be made from a range of materials covering malleable iron, carbon steel, and aluminum. The carbon steel lever is made from steel sheet by a pressing process, thus, is cost effective. The malleable iron lever is made by a casting process, which has relatively higher strength and hardness as well as better abrasion resistance. It can be used for outdoor service in mild corrosion environment. The aluminum lever is made of aluminum alloy by the pressure die casting process. It has superior advantages: (1)light weight; (2) good corrosion resistance to ambient environment; (3) dew retardation. The only issue is that it is more expensive than carbon steel and malleable iron.

Style I: malleable iron lever + stainless steel top plate for cast iron butterfly valves.

Style II: malleable iron lever and aluminum top plate for cast iron butterfly valves.

Style III: carbon steel lever (black coated) with carbon steel top plate (galvanized).

Style IV: aluminum lever and aluminum top plate for cast iron butterfly valves.

Style V: new design of aluminum lever with aluminum top plate for cast iron butterfly valves.
